True conversation from the lunchroom yesterday (as best I can recollect the dialog):

Me: What were you up to last weekend?
Jeremy: Installed Linux.
Me: Wait, on the iMac?  Why?
Jeremy: For fun.  But I can't get it to work.
Me: Surprise.
Jeremy: It won't recognize my processor as a dual core.
Nate: Did you set that value right?
Jeremy: Probably not.  It's all command-line on the install.
Nate: You know you can use the install disc for that version.
Jeremy: Yeah, but...

Why install Linux?  Because it's there.  Linux is stable, its users just aren't.
