The fiery preacher; the cool, data-driven consultant with big-time All-American sons; the Republican who Republicans supposedly love to hate.

But The Maverick looks like he's going to ride the coattails of the Baptist to the nomination - and Mr. Huckabee is content that it be so.  I don't know why Huckabee is so willing to be the spoiler, since it is postulated that most of his supporters would back Mr. Romney if Huckabee were not in the race.  We may never know because I am willing to say that this is all but done on the GOP side.

An interesting note for those who think Republicans don't like McCain is his win in the California GOP primary, where 1) Independents cannot vote and 2) Romney was polling better.  I've been unable to find any comment or reporting on this issue yet today, but I suspect that in spite of what we read about how California Republicans feel about undocumented immigrants, the issue was, is and will be fools gold for Republican candidates.  And perhaps Bush and congress have not driven all Latinos from the party - perhaps some legal immigrants (not reached by the pollsters) showed up to vote for John?  I'm just speculating now...

|| Viva McCain !!
