This time the bully’s lunch money got taken by the playground underdog

Oh INTC where art thou?  Maybe back – maybe not.  Check in 2009.

Intel had a big announcement today, and it’s good news.  We need good news.  Intel struggled through 2006 with a nearly 12% decrease in revenue, nearly all of it lost to AMD ( see eetimes link).  Still when you’re the biggest, it is hard not to become complacent at the top.

I think we have finally awakened from our stupor (let me assure you, I’ve been poking the sleeping giant all along, though I do not claim any causal connection to our improved performance in the last six months; I think we just got fed up of stinking).  And since our fourth quarter announcement (which the market didn’t like, but which to me signaled that we had turned the corner), I have not been looking forward to my anticipated departure from Intel for business school.  I’d like to stick around and see what happens to the company and to the value of my options and restricted stock.

Lastly, I want to point out that taken over the long term, Intel has been incredibly good to consumers and investors (though we haven't done right by investors lately).

Have a great week!

Matt Miner
