7:00 am           Woken up by officer asking for "Frank Miner".  Informed him that no such person
existed here.  Went back to sleep.

8:30 am          Truck is not where I left it.  Called Act Towing to check with them.  They had towed a Cadillac from the apartments last night, but no trucks.

8:40 am           Called Phoenix PD to report it (602.262.6151), they said they would send officer.

9:08 am           Two officers stop by, one of them the gentleman who had asked for not me earlier.  Truck has been recovered, ignition is destroyed, it is at

Shamrock Towing
yard at:  40th St & University (2 blocks south on the east side)
602.454.0200
$36.50

Police give me a report # and say to use that to reclaim it

From Courtesy Chevrolet:

Dan in Service, do they have the parts?  Yes
It will cost $200 - $???, depending on the damage done.  They can have it out maybe late today, likely tomorrow.

11:00am         Truck retrieved from Shamrock towing, cost $36.50.  Could not use report number to reclaim, after all.  Steering column is bashed to pieces and scattered all over floor.  Truck can be easily started with a pair of pliers (conveniently left by the thieves)

12:30pm         Truck taken to Courtesy Chevrolet.  Dan takes one look, says "ouch, call your adjustor".  I call Dad, we decide to not use insurance ($500 deductible).  I tell Dan to fix it.  He guesses $700-750.

1:00 pm          Lunch at Chipotle with Virginia.  Yum!

4:30 pm          Dan calls, says a refurbished column can be installed for cheaper than repairing the old one, but will take longer.  I meditate.

5:00 pm          I call Dan and say "go with the cheaper option"

8:00 pm          Pick up Matt's 1977 Ford F150 Ranger 4x4 (the hunting truck) to drive to work tomorrow.  After adding four kinds of fluids and gasoline, it is ready.

9:00 am           Drive Ford to work.  I miss mirrors.  And interior door handles.  Thankfully, the window crank does not fail and I can continue to open the driver's door using the exterior handle.

5:30 pm          Return Ford to Matt with gratitude.  We drive to the dealership.

6:00 pm          Retrieve truck from Courtesy Chevrolet, grand total $401.14, not bad.  I now have a shiny chrome key-turner in place of the old black plastic one.  Hooray!  That alone was worth the dough.

6:30 pm          Stop by Checker auto and buy a celebratory The Club for me and new bottles of 30W oil, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid (2 bottles, the kind with stop-leak) for Matt.

7:00 pm          Dinner with Matt and Charity.  Christmas undecorating.

8:00 pm          Begin cleaning police crayon off windshield.

8:30 pm          Finish cleaning (most of) police crayon.  I will find the rest tomorrow.

 9:30 pm          Sleep.

Dude. That bites. But it sounds like you got a sweet new key-turner out of the whole episode. I'd be interested to know how you would have gotten out of the truck had the window crank failed.

It's totally shine-tastic.  Also, I would have used the passenger door.

Gee - I appreciate that. I imagined you smashing the window with your forehead (probably what I would have done).

Also, thank you for the fluids and for criticizing my wheels on the www...=).
